Research and learning should supersede that of rights of author
I
believe that the rights of authors to "own" their creative
works should not supersede that of research and learning, especially in light
of the internet's broad use as an educational tool.
By giving the right s of authors
would mean that giving author exclusive control over article. I believe that once a work has been
published, it has been made available to all. The reason for making something
public is so that it may be enjoyed by many.
Barrier-free access helps readers find and retrieve the research they need, and
helps authors reach readers who can apply, cite and build on their work. information should be freely available
to everyone. Denying people information can be used as a means to control them.
People who don’t have the necessary information to make decisions have to rely
on someone else’s judgement Taken to the extreme, this describes better the
position of a slave than that of a free human being and yet equally the importance
of not abusing that right. information should be freely available I would suggest that we ought to be in favour
of open source .The Internet allows
space for throwing out new ideas and authors rights are like walls.
Its
free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read,
download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these
articles, without financial, legal, or technical
barriers
If we
continue to restrict access to information, that will, of necessity encourage
underground versions of information
The right of an author to
"own" his/her creative work is a property right. Authors have rights over their intellectual property. They
have the ability to transfer or retain full (or partial) rights that influence
the dissemination and utilization of their publications in teaching and
research. Some author make a living by
selling their work, and widespread unauthorized sharing could slash their
revenue. It is a proper right as it gives authors control. If they don’t get
paid for their articles, at least they should get credit l over the integrity
of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.
